Imagine "Smooth Swing" of the Driver as an Alternative to "Hitting" the Golf Ball

Most of us have suffered the experience of taking a good, smooth swing when we address the ball, subsequently we step up to the ball and our swing instantly falls apart.  Why will it be that once we place an object (a ball) in front of us it brings about an enormous variation in our golf swing basics?  The main reason for most of us is that if the golf ball is the target, we hit to the target without any regard for all of the swing keys we taught ourselves to do at ball address.

Of course the target is always to strike the ball cleanly, and nothing else matters devoid of pure contact with the golf ball.  But it will be nearly unachievable to strike the ball solidly over a consistent basis without a well-synchronized golf swing.  And one thing that will take away from that easy golf swing we so wish:  muscle tension.  So now we are going to go into a few things to key on prior to, throughout and following striking a shot which will help to focus on the entire golf swing and relieve that tension we have as we move toward ball contact.

1.            Golf grip.  By maintaining a constant pressure for which you exert on the golf club, you can eradicate the inclination to grip harder as you approach your ball.  Escalating the tension in your golf grip will cause the club head to decelerate, reducing yardage and triggering your club face to strike the ball at varying angles.

2.            Relax the jaw.  Tension frequently starts from the jaw, and we clench our teeth prior to striking the ball.  The tension is sent throughout the body, causing golfers to flail at the golf ball rather than swinging through it with an even stroke.  Practice swinging with your mouth slightly open throughout the swing, which will result in reduced tension being transferred throughout the body.

3.            Steady breathing.  When we become tense, we usually shorten our breath.  Anybody who's had a hard time talking before a group knows the feeling.  So it will be imperative to maintain breathing, and by this I mean slowly exhaling throughout the entire swing.  It won't be relaxed to do initially if you are not accustomed to doing it, so practice while hitting at the driving range.  Make sure you slowly exhale when you swing through the golf ball.  You are going to find it nearly impossible to tense up if you don't interrupt your exhaling.

Staying relaxed throughout the swing is easier said than done, however by employing a few simple techniques you may soon be incorporating it into your golf swing.  Once you relieve the tension in your swing, you will see that the golf ball is going to fly straighter with more consistency, and you will increase your club velocity, and thus your distance.
